Step outside of normal with Gwen's Rex!
Vuong's writing is so beautiful and poetic that I found myself re-reading sections just to absorb the words. He writes about a young man who is composing a letter to his mother - a letter he knows she will never be able to read because of the language barrier. Powerful. Sad. Beautiful.
If the idea of a serial killer with memory loss is intriguing - this may be the book for you! A fun, at times bizarre, collection of short stories, Young-Ha Kim's book does not disappoint.
Two Words: funny and intense. I'll expand on that: darkly funny and emotionally intense. Hands down my favorite book of 2019 so far. I don't know where Kirshenbaum gets her information from (and I don't need to), but wherever it comes from, it's a pretty darn accurate description of mental illness / psych hospitals.
Loved Loved Loved This Book! I am totally mesmerized by Marra's work. This is his second book (the first is also AMAZING - A Constellation of Vital Phenomena). These interconnected stories are compelling and powerful.
I cannot say enough about this book (just ask anyone who knows me). If forced to pick ONE book as my all-time favorite this is it. Hands down. No questions asked. No character has stayed with me in the way that Owen Meany has.
